The south east area of Australia is the highest risk area for bushfire/wildfire in the world. The events of February 2009 in Victoria demonstrated widespread ignorance of the nature of this risk. Following those events were two significant developments - the Bushfire Royal Commission and the release of the new AS3959 - Australian Standard for building in bushfire prone areas. The bushfire risk landscape has changed dramatically. Although the Commission is ongoing the clear message that has already emerged is that you can't rely on Government or its agencies to save you, your business or your assets.
